Dear Leo,
Your dad picked 3 more pieces of glass out of your foot Sunday morning, after your walk. It was a good walk. You had a blast. I don't know exactly when you grew up and decided you enjoyed walking, but apparently you do, because I'm told you sat at the door and whined on Saturday when you were left behind and yesterday you were so overjoyed to be out. You wanted to investigate this bird, that puddle, a pair of dogs you hadn't seen before. You limped a little bit, and were really limping by the time we were through but you didn't seem to care. You were just so happy to be outside!
Sunday night I had your daddy look at your foot again, as he was going to work today and wouldn't be here to inspect it first thing in the morning. He ended up picking 7-10 grains of sand, dirt and small rock pieces out of the wound. Apparently it has become quite the catch-all for whatever you happen to be walking through. This brings us to worrying about infection and also about the wound being unable to heal closed. We're not quite sure how to handle it, but for now we're just going to clean it out on a daily basis and hope that suffices.
Today you walked just fine, only limping when on your feet, initially, after being asleep all night.

How would one keep it clean so that it could heal? That seems like quite the challenge. Would a bandage work or would he rip it off? I hope it does not get infected. Glad Leo has such great parents that look out for him. :)
A temporary bandage, just for walking, would work, but most likely would inhibit proper joint movement, cause him to walk funny and create other problems. So far, it seems to have closed up. No limping all week & Kevin hasn't had time to clean or poke around in it so...
