Leo's fecal exam last week was negative.
Today there were flea tapeworms waving at me from his poop.
One phone call to the vet and $50 worth of some Bayer product I've never heard of called Drontal (a combination of 3 drugs normally used to treat 4 different intestinal parasites) later, we should have it under control. When the office staff person who checked me out rang it up, she said "Yikes!" about the price, then informed me it was for one and one-half tablets, and we figured it was because he is such a big dog.
Four years ago when Kansas had flea tapeworm it was $25, but she's half his size and there were two different pills to give her, plus another dose to be given 10 days later. I know I've also payed as little as $10-15 in the past, as well.
Here's hoping the other two don't get it.
DH did find a flea on Leo's face at the vet last week. Right after we got there. An aging doberman was sharing the waiting room with us and his owner remarked that the fleas at his house were really bad. DH also found a flea on Kansas' face yesterday. Unfortunately, in order for their monthly pest treatment to work, the pest actually has to get on the dog, and might get ingested in the process.
Yay.
